Shadow Government Statistics

Years ago, John J. Williams conducted a process of exploring the history of goverment economic reporting and discovered that changes had been made over the years to the way the our government's statistics were calculated.

As proprietor of Shadow Government Statistics, Williams provides a site that recalculates government statistics based on older goverment methods or traditional accounting methods. Below is a sample of the differences seen.

SGS Alternate Unemployment Rate

While Williams' site provides more indepth information for a charge, a fairly good amount of statistical and historical information is made available for no charge.

Below are two links. The first offers a short, interesting article that lists some of the changes made over the years by past presidential administrations to the methods used for calculation key national financial statistics. The second link is to a detailed report on the likelihood of the U.S. experiencing a "hyperinflationary great depression".
